The OW149 Colonial Chair, designed by Ole Wanscher in 1959, is a timeless masterpiece that blends classic conservative design with enduring appeal. Wanscher aimed to create furniture that not only paid tribute to traditional forms but also stood the test of time, and the Colonial Chair remains his most iconic creation. Known for his minimalist aesthetic, Wanscher favored slim, refined proportions. Despite its delicate appearance, the OW149 is remarkably stable, thanks to its well-engineered bracing and structural integrity.
The Colonial Chair’s design features sophisticated, slightly curved armrests that rise elegantly before dipping down, a signature Wanscher detail. The legs, crafted from roundwood timber, are slender yet sturdy, with the back legs gently curving outward for added stability and aesthetic refinement. This attention to detail and balance makes the Colonial Chair both visually striking and exceptionally comfortable.
Wanscher later expanded the Colonial Series with the addition of the Colonial Sofa and Colonial Coffee Table, further enhancing the timeless appeal of this collection.
