Born over a century ago, Poltrona Frau is an international furniture brand embodying the elegance, style and precision of Italian design.
The company known throughout the world owes its success to its careful selection of raw materials. Poltrona Frau´s product range includes leather armchairs and corner, leather and modular sofas, beds and modular bookcases, dining and coffee tables and furnishing accessories such as table lamps or hanging lamps – as well as leather chairs, ergonomic chairs and office desks.
Poltrona Frau´s modern style combines function and design. Over the years, the company has developed advanced material crafting techniques, with roots in the expertise of master craftsmen. This heritage, handed down across the generations, is constantly adapted and renewed, in a production process that begins with the choice of the best leathers. A firm believer in sustainability, the company’s mission is to furnish homes and offices that provide comfort, safety and well-being. Since 1912, the year the company was founded in Turin by Renzo Frau, Poltrona Frau has branded each of its items with a mark that guarantees perfection.
Poltrona Frau Production Phases: From leather to sofas
Each Poltrona Frau furniture ensures extraordinary aesthetic and lasting qualities. The use of the exclusive Pelle Frau® (European full-grain leather) allows the creation of exquisite tactile effects. In fact, the manufacturing process consists of 20 production phases, each carried out with the utmost care. Production can be divided into three macro areas: residential, contract (dedicated to public facilities and stores) and Interior in Motion; the latter is specialized in creating customized furniture for the transport sector, i.e. for the automotive, aviation, nautical and railway sectors.
Poltrona Frau Vanity Fair, Archibald and Cockpit: The sovereigns of the Collections
Among the most popular products of the brand we mention Poltrona Frau Vanity Fair, the replica of the well-known 904 model, present in the catalog in 1930. The prototype of the modern armchair with a typical rounded shape: a line of leather-covered tacks outlines the seatback and armrests
Poltrona Frau Archibald is an armchair created in several versions, whose exclusive feature remains the soft and wide seat richly padded with goose down; the structure and feet are made of steel, with a thin and light line. When two excellences meet, the result can only be perfection: in one word, Cockpit. Poltrona Frau and Ferrari celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Maranello house with the creation of a unique product; an office seat inspired by the seat of a racing car, which therefore borrows the character and performance of Ferrari cars. The Cavallino Rampante armchair is designed to offer the sensations felt on the track, from ergonomics to the perception of momentum and propulsion. A union of prestige, which enhances and highlights even more the long collaboration between the two brands.
Poltrona Frau, Brief History
In 1963 Poltrona Frau office was moved to Tolentino, in Marche. The following years were enhanced by collaborations with prestigious designers, such as Achille Castiglioni and Gio Ponti. The complete block of shares was acquired in the early 1990s by Franco Moschini, the current chairman. Among the most prestigious orders made over the years, we mention only a few: the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Nuovo Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
