The tradition of Giorgetti goes back to more than 100 years ago when it started its activity in Brianza and it still forges ahead with innovation, conserving the patrimony of its experience in cabinet making. The uniqueness of Giorgetti lies in its capacity to make quality and innovation parts of its life.
A Giorgetti ambient never appears as an aseptic space, devoid of personality, on the contrary it transpires elegance, sobriety and decisiveness. Its furnishing style can be immediately identified and defined as ‘the Giorgetti style’, unique and original, characterised at the source by its atypical uniqueness. These values materialise into products that dismiss the ordinary to create exclusive and versatile solutions, in the respect of a refined and unmistakable character that seduces by the beauty of its contrasts.
From this premise it is born the lasting and fruitful partnership with Roberto Lazzeroni, Florentine architect who sees in interior design a specialization which he defines as “fundamental” for the following approach to the world of the “industrial product”. A fine connoisseur of the history of design and its related signs, he is very skillful to put daily into practice this knowledge.
Talking about his own projects, Lazzeroni uses the expression of “sentimental design”; it is indeed easy, even for an untrained eye, to see the tension between past and future in this works as in those of Girgetti.
From this collaboration, in 2021, two great projects were unveiled.
Giorgetti presents Vesper, the sofa-system designed by Roberto Lazzeroni that subverts and goes beyond the traditional idea of sofa to offer a dynamic and customisable concept. The element that defines the entire project is the base, which has been reduced to a simple sign, a platform on which the furnishing object comes to life in its eccentric sobriety.
With its organic forms, Vesper interprets a certain fluidity of contemporary living in which sinuous lines design spaces with a pleasant visual and tactile softness. Elegant and sophisticated, the bases covered in leather contain seat cushions and upholstered backrests, in leather or fabric, with completely removable covers.
"The sofa is the place where many of our daily activities take place. The one in my house, for instance, is very deep, which allows me to use it to read, relax or sleep, but also to work or eat something. I wanted to create an island that can be inserted into rooms, that moves naturally within the space. Thanks to its modularity, you can define very different compositions with great impact." says the designer.
Combining manufacturing skill with Roberto Lazzeroni's distinctive features in a marvellous symphony, Giorgetti presents Houdini. It is a sculptural and monumental object that, by defining itself in the essential and soft sign of the designer, explores space and creates a wonderful dialogue with the surrounding environment. It is a jewel-object, a precious treasure ches that holds a timeless charm.
“The aim was to create a cabinet that with a fluid function in the home: from the living room to the sleeping area. It is a piece that defies all classification. It is not a sideboard, it is not a storage unit, it is not a bar cabinet: it is a bit of all those things. I wanted it to be a mysterious piece of furniture, to have secrets and magic: it takes its name from this initial idea. In the two-door version, the columns are two chests that open to reveal shelves, compartments, drawers... It is a sort of magic, it becomes a "house of things", a box of wonders. The shape is inspired by the silos found in Lombardy's rural areas, an element often found in Aldo Rossi's architecture.” Roberto Lazzeroni
In the research for detail, Houdini expresses the uniqueness of Giorgetti's cabinet-making tradition of a perfect balance between shape and function. The external appearance is composed of a play of inlays in canaletto walnut or maple, arranged according to the direction of the veins, vertical and horizontal, to obtain an iridescent effect on the surface. The shape of the inlays has been studied by placing perpendicular and inclined lines to create a curious optical effect: when you look at the cabinet from a distance, the inlays seem to tighten at the centre of the cabinet and then widen at the top and bottom.
This obsessive attention to detail reveals the ability to select and process raw materials, the precision of the technology, the technical expertise and artistic sensitivity of the company's R&D department and craftsmen.
Houdini is perfectly suitable to the living or night area, to classic or contemporary atmospheres, to hold bar sets and tableware or clothing, jewellery and accessories, to become a distinguished and elegant fellow in the living experience. Houdini is the result of a wonderful choral work.
