A selection of this year’s best new arrivals for indoors
Linear or L-shaped, leather or fabric, with geometric or softer lines—but always welcoming and comfortable.
The sofas we’ve selected amongst this year’s new arrivals are versatile and modular to suit any function and space. They all share some common features: excellent quality, the sartorial study of detail and the choice of sustainable materials, especially as regards the padding. They are produced by some of the sector’s best brands—from B&B Italia to Baxter, from Cassina to Flexform, from Minotti to Poltrona Frau and Poliform.
The stylistic theme behind the 2021 MINOTTI Collection offers a new, modern take on the Mid-Century spirit, halfway between Rationalism and Brutalism, endowing the wide range of furniture designed for interiors with a contemporary feel and a distinctive kind of elegance.
The architectural references are mellowed by the furnishings of the 2021 Collection, thanks to its mix of leathers in sophisticated colours and the softness of its textiles, not to mention the variety of wood and exquisite stone materials. These are enhanced by an interplay of glossy and matt effects, a wide range of textures and the presence of couture details. Among the novelties the Roger seating system and Belt family of seats, both signed by Rodolfo Dordoni.
The Roger seating system is the result of an open design, created to be composed with imagination and personalized with style. Exceptionally versatile, it boasts an extensive range of elements offering endless design solutions. The distinctive characteristic and inspiration behind the Belt family is the idea of a belt that draws the profile of the body, encircling it, then breaking off and fastening on the front of the seat. The family consists of a sofa, an armchair, a bergère with footstool, a smaller lounge armchair, and a dining little armchair.
Noonu is the name of the new sofa system that Antonio Citterio has designed for B&B ITALIA: a brand-new project created to continue and complete the journey started in 2018 with B&B Atoll. “Atoll and Noonu stemmed from a single idea, namely a cylinder that could be used as an armrest and cushions distributed freely over the sofa’, says architect Antonio Citterio, ‘What’s new in Noonu is the apparently suspended seating, which extends all the way to the floor, and the new types of elements that we have defined as ‘piano’ and ‘sail’ elements, lending a certain identity and richness to the design”.
Soriana: The return of an icon with a vision for the future. In collaboration with Tobia Scarpa, CASSINA brings this collectors’ icon back from its archives and reboots it, with the utmost respect for authenticity, by employing environmentally friendly materials to make it more actual than ever. Defined by its abundant curves, Soriana is wrapped with generous upholstery that is fixed with a giant metal brace to form relaxed creases around its entire body.
The homely Sengu Sofa makes comfort its prime stylistic feature. Its delicate design with generous volumes, in various unconventional compositions, encourages a convivial and intimate use that welcomes conversation from one side of the room to the other thanks to its open shapes.
Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for POLTRONA FRAU, the In the Mood seating system was conceived to allow fabric and leather express themselves as expanses of soft and welcoming surfaces. A strongly horizontal design for a sofa of sophisticated simplicity that wears both finishes with consummate sartorial elegance. The large padded surfaces and minimalist, almost elementary are particularly successful at bringing out the beauty of the upholstery, in fine Pelle Frau* leather or in numerous patterns of fabrics and splendid shades of ColorSphere®.
The 2021 FLEXFORM collection conjures the spirit of a contemporary habitat where the interior decor embodies an all-encompassing style and timeless elegance untouched by fleeting fashions. The concept for the Bretton sofa places cowhide at the heart of the design while the Gregory XL seating system further expands its modular options through a series of new pieces, distinguished by their impressive size, that can be assembled into generously proportioned arrangements designed to offer a superior level of comfort.
BAXTER's 2021 collection takes inspiration from the world of art, fashion, design and architecture. This is the result of a dialogue between different influences, whose common denominator is the daring use of colour and an informal idea of spaces. Christophe Delcourt, through the development of organic forms that fit together stages the Clara sofa. A modular sofa made up of numerous elements that combine to create every time seating compositions made of interlocking voids and solids as well as concave and convex curves; the main feature is that of a “broken up” living room.
POLIFORM presents Saint-Germain: a sofa system with sinuous and sensual shapes. Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud and inspired by organic forms that reinterpret the design style of the Seventies, it’s a system capable of transforming any space into a warm and intimate landscape, infusing a pleasant feeling of domestic comfort.
Soft and enveloping lines are present in all the elements of the collection, which includes diverse modules with which is possible to create linear, angular or unconventional compositions, always characterized by an interplay of volumes and depths with welcoming appeal. From the haute couture materiality of bouclé fabrics to the contemporary elegance of hide, the finishing enhances the voluptuous volumes of Saint-Germain, making it aesthetically versatile.
