The CH88T Chair by Hans J. Wegner is a fine example of his exploration of materials beyond his signature woodwork. Initially conceived as a prototype for the international Helsingborg Exhibition in 1955, this chair was not put into production until 2014, in celebration of the centennial of Wegner’s birth. This chair perfectly combines functionality, elegance, and versatility, making it a timeless addition to modern interiors.
The CH88T design features a sleek fusion of wood and industrial steel, a testament to Wegner’s ability to soften minimalist forms while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The chair’s steel frame supports an oval wooden seat and a steam-bent backrest with upturned ends, creating a natural resting place for the forearms. This combination of materials not only lends the chair a striking visual appeal but also enhances its practicality, making it stackable and easy to store.
