The Carlotta Chair by Cassina, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1967, is a refined piece that combines minimalist aesthetics with exceptional craftsmanship. Originally part of the Cassina Young Play program, which aimed to offer sophisticated yet casual comfort to a younger clientele, Carlotta embodies the Scarpa duo’s commitment to simplicity and functional design. Crafted from teak, the chair’s structure uses only four frames, connected with expertly executed joints and finger joints that showcase the Meda joinery's skill in wood craftsmanship. The design features signature semi-circular cutouts in the internal corners, reflecting an emphasis on efficient production. The hand-woven support cords crisscross the frame, enhanced by CNC precision, which adds a modern twist to traditional techniques. Cushions padded with eco-friendly PET fiber provide comfort, making the Carlotta Chair an ideal choice for relaxed outdoor seating that balances timeless design with Cassina's innovative approach to material and production.
