Ico Parisi

Domenico Parisi was born in Palermo in 1916 and died in Como in 1996. He was an architect, photographer, graphic designer, painter, director, and one of the absolute protagonists of 20th century Italian design. He carried out his career between Milan and Como and began very early in one of the most avant-garde architectural studios in Lombardy: that of Giuseppe Terragni. Once he returned from the front, in 1943, he devoted himself very intensely to the design of objects and interior architecture.

His long and prolific collaboration with Cesare Cassina, with whom he created some of the Brianza company’s most iconic and important products, dates back to 1954 and was a fundamental phase in his professional life. Ico Parisi was for several years Cassina's leading designer and was also commissioned to design company showrooms and develop the company catalogue.

Ico Parisi was the torchbearer of a unique and refined style in Italian design where exclusive materials, expertise in using curved shapes and great aesthetic impact were the distinguishing features of his every project. His role as a comprehensive designer allowed him to see and experience many aspects of creativity becoming in fact an all-round designer-artist.

Today Ico Parisi comes back to life in the Cassina catalogue which has taken from the historical archive and reissued some historical products never produced in series. The work of research and exploration carried out was important and led to a result that fully respects and reflects the Sicilian designer’s style and beliefs. Each object today bears his signature and logo accompanied by a series number that make each product unique and authentic.
