Shiro Kuramata

Shiro Kuramata, a pioneering Japanese designer, is celebrated for his ability to capture the spirit of his era through meaningful creations. In 1965, he founded the Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo, which operated until his passing in 1991, producing numerous works that have left a lasting impact on product design.

His introduction to Italian design came through Memphis, and later, in 1987, through Cappellini, where he introduced the iconic "Progetti Compiuti" drawer collection. Among his highly esteemed works for Cappellini are the Steel Pipe Drink Trolley, Sofa With Arms, Ko-Ko table, Bookshelf, and Revolving Cabinet.

Kuramata's designs remain relevant today and are housed in the permanent collections of renowned museums, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, MoMA in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, the Vitra Design Museum, and the Toyama Museum of Modern Art.
