Konstantin Grcic

Born in 1965 in Munich, Konstantin Grcic is an internationally renowned German designer. His way of working and style are greatly appreciated and recognized everywhere for the spontaneous and direct approach used with design. All his products feature geometric shapes, sharp edges and unusual angles that make his creations one of a kind. His passion for the worlds of carpentry and restoration has conditioned him since his youth and have accompanied and guided him over the years toward the world of product design.

After studying cabinetry at the John Makepeace School in London, Grcic attended a Product Design course at the prestigious Royal College of Art, also in London, which was a three-year commitment. After finishing his studies at the end of the 1980s, Konstantin Grcic experienced an important moment for his growth: his meeting with Jasper Morrison. He worked with him until the late 1990s when he began designing products for the SCP store, one of the largest and most important design showrooms in London. These experiences acquired in the English capital helped him to find his identity and stimulate his great creativity, fully manifesting his extraordinary potential.

Konstantin Grcic founded his own design studio in Munich in 1991 called "Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design". Here, with the help of 5 collaborators, he was able to unleash his creative inclination and show the world his incredible skills as a designer. It was not long before he was engaged in a number of collaborations with the leading companies in the sector. Grcic in fact has designed for brands such as Cassina, Magis, Flos, Driade, Agape, Vitra and many others. The products arising from these collaborations were defined as revolutionary and intelligent; the New York Times declared that Grcic’s way of working possessed a rigorous focus on the creation of products with a great logical sense, of enormous utility and simplicity.

In his long and prolific career, Konstantin Grcic was able to win numerous international awards and accolades; these include winning no less than three Compasso d’Oro awards: the first was in 2001 with the May Day lamp by Flos, the second in 2011 with the Myto Chair in the Plank Collections and the third in 2016 for the OK lamp by Flos. Many of his products are also on display in the most important permanent design museums. The "Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design" studio is now located in Berlin where Grcic continues to work and produce design objects of the utmost aesthetic beauty and incredible functionality.
