Karim Rashid
Known as one of the most creative and extravagant designers on the international scene, Karim Rashid is a naturalized Canadian industrial designer of Egyptian origin. Famous throughout the world for his eclectic and offbeat style, Rashid has measured himself against all areas of creativity including fashion, art, product design, music and interior design, always managing to manifest his unmistakable style.
Born in Cairo in 1960, he grew up in Canada and received his Bachelor’s Degree in industrial design from Carleton University in Ottawa in 1982 and completed his studies in Italy. Karim Rashid currently lives and works in New York where he runs his own design studio. Opened in 1993, the studio has successfully collaborated with brands of the likes of Artemide, Giorgio Armani, Magis, Zanotta, Sony, Edra, Bonaldo, Tonelli and many others.
In a long and prolific career marked by great extravagance and genius, Karim Rashid has created more than 3000 products and won approximately 300 awards. Some of his most significant products are part of the permanent collections of the world’s most important museums including the Moma in New York as well as that of San Francisco. The colour pink, the Canadian designer’s trademark, can be found in most of his projects and is, as he defines it, a super-optimistic version of white.
